Charity or Self Interest? Apple has giving 9,000 free iPads to Teach for America Charity

Apple has giving 9,000 free iPads to Teach for America Charity, but whats the cost?

The charity in question is Teach for America program, and Steve Jobs’ wife, Laurene Powell is on the board of directors.

Apple invited iPad users that were upgrading to give back their first generation devices at a retail store, and it would donate them to the poorly paid teachers in the program. At the end of the day Apple’s not donating anything except the logistics and refurbishment costs. All the Ipads are secondhand, donated from people who brought Ipad 2s.

If Steve Jobs wanted to give to charity then Apple could have spent just a fraction of its $76 billion in cash on education, or Steve Jobs could have dropped a small fraction of his personal wealth on them as gift aid in the same way that Microsoft has done, and the Bill Gates foundation is actively doing.

To my mind this is nothing less than Apple trying to lock people and institutions into the apple way.

You may think that this would be a good thing, I dont. What have your thoughts do not con yourself into thinking that this has anything to do with charity. This is nothing less than an add campaign that is trying to lock in future revenue streams in other words school children.
